3.10: Your Phone Saves Lives

I actually find this one fascinating. The Verge is reporting on a story that, since the 1990s when people started carrying cell phones, crime went down. The reason proposed is that citizens then had access to 911 anywhere, and the risk of being caught committing a crime went up.

I haven’t ever thought this through in detail before, but knowing this it seems like we almost have an obligation to carry cell phones (or, of course, smart phones). Simply by carrying these mini computers we’re aiding in cutting down violence. Isn’t that a civic duty?
